Determination

CONTENTS

MOISTURE

Moisture measurement is essential in mining industry with two main aspects, a safe transportation of the cargo being it shipped and a commercial aspect for cargo settlement.

International Standard ISO 10251 species methods for the determination of moisture content of a lot of copper, lead, zinc or nickel concentrate and all of our methods are in compliance with this international standard.

Gravimetrical method is carried out for the determination of bulk and hygroscopic moisture or for preparing a pre-dried test portion. Samples/test portions are dried at determinate temperature in our drying ovens until constant mass is obtained and themoisture content determined as the percentage mass loss on drying

TML

Determination

Under the requirements of international maritime regulation, primarily the International Maritime Bulk Solid Cargoes (IMSBC) Code, a cargo that may liquefy must be shipped below a threshold moisture content, the ‘Transportable Moisture Limit’ (TML)—as determined from one of three laboratory test methods specied within the IMSBC Code.

Our laboratories for over 20 years have been a forefront in FMP/TML test. TML is derived from the Flow Moisture Point (FMP), being the minimum moisture required to induce liquefaction, but incorporating a 10% safety factor.

In accordance with IMSBC Code 2012 for solid bulk cargoes and ISO 12742:2007 our laboratories apply the ow table method including its graphical validation, this in order to ensure an accurate TML and moisture content for cargo safe transportation.

Our technical experts are qualied to carry out FMP/TML test with a high standard preparation, always taking into account the importance of knowing the pre-shipment conditions of the material in order to have a safe cargo transportation

Sampling

IMO

Due to its particular and specic physical conditions solid bulk cargoes such as mineral concentrates may have a precise certainty of its dry state when loaded, if not the cargo may contain enough moisture in its inner particles to become uid, this condition is given mainly for the forces to which the cargo is subjected during its maritime transit.

Vessel capsize due to cargo shift may occur due to the vibratory and compaction forces which liquify the material when moisture content exceeds its Transportable Moisture Limit (TML).

IMO Sampling CCI in accordance to IMSBC Code for solid bulk cargoes carry out a pre-shipment material test based on ISO 12742:2007 by which we obtain, with a laboratory crafted test, the Flow Moisture Point (FMP) of the material allowing to determine a safe TML of mineral concentrates and other solid bulk cargoes.

TML First step is to obtain a representative sample of the cargo by sampling the lot with a correct and representative method.

SAMPLES

Preparation of

In order to obtain an unbiased estimate result of the metal contents of the lot, it is important that a percentage of the sample is prepared in our laboratories by being put through a number of controlled conditions as drying, sieved and pulverized.

The result of the conjunction of these laboratory phases is a prepared sample of about 200 grs ready for subsequent chemical analysis.

LABORATORY

EQUIPMENT

CCI LAB has high-end equipment necessary for the correct execution of the testing services, the processing and analysis of the services data.

The equipment includes measurement instruments, software, firmware, measurement standards, reference data, materials, reagents and consumables, as well as auxiliary apparatus or combination of these necessary to carry out a measurement process and that can influence the result.

Through a strict program, CCI guarantees its operation with calibrated equipment in order to guarantee that the testing services and measurements performed by the laboratory are traceable to the International System of Units (SI) through an uninterrupted chain of calibrations or comparisons that are they link to relevant primary standards of the SI unit of measurement.

By using reputable third-party calibration providers, CCILAB's measurement traceability is ensured and you can demonstrate competence, measurement ability and the traceability of your issued results.

INSPECTION AND

SAMPLING

For more than 20 Years Control Cargo International has been an active participant and a main actor in the Mexican mining industry, having an extensive knowledge in mineral and dry bulk cargoes supervision and inspection. Our services include and distinguished a comprehensive range of technical sampling methods in accordance with international standards, supported with our skilled personnel and calibrated and optimal equipment.

CCI counts with a wide range of Sampling services mainly divided into obtaining representative samples for Moisture Content Determination and Sample Preparation with traceability to various international metrology bodies as well as a minimum uncertainty obtained in our results.

VESSEL LOADING

SAMPLING & SUPERVISION

Taking advantage of our Surveyor´s knowledge and experience in shipping supervision and coordination, CCI o‑ffers an integral service of supervision which includes material sampling, weighing and inspections during mineral concentrate shipping.

Our sampling activities during shipping operations are dynamical and specic giving us the capability to obtain representative samples without interrupting the flow of operations.

CONTAINER

SAMPLNIG

Due to the eciency and convenience of containerized cargo transportation, international trade in last years has a notable increment in solid bulk cargoes consolidated in ISO containers.

As a result of this fact CCI´s sampling methods contemplate the necessity of e‑ectively implement sampling procedures in order to include the necessary amendments to relevant conventions and other mandatory guidelines and recommendations.

ON-BOARD-TRUCK

SAMPLING

Whether arriving to port, being shipped or on transit, sampling truck-by-truck for further metallurgical testing or moisture content determination is a recurrent activity in the mining industry.

Sampling on-board trucks is carried out by our sampling workteams/crews by means of an industrial drill, collecting representative test portion through an approximately of 32 to 50 increments on truck bed.

CCI´s sampling workteam and our infrastructure allows us to carry out dynamic sampling methods in accordance with international standards as ISO 12743 and JIS 8100.

Our sampling procedures are also supported by the use of the ideal devices and equipment.

SPEAR

SAMPLING

Depending on mineral concentrate moisture content or granulometry it exists the necessity betweentimes to carry out the sampling procedures on oor once a unit is discharged, this method allows the capability to obtain a representative sample with the main purpose of minimizing the uncertainty that this conditions may provide.

Our CCI sampling personnel and surveyors specialized in dry bulk cargoes are capable of detecting these physical conditions in order to carry out a the sampling on floor using a sampling spear collecting from 100 to 200 increments in order to obtain a correct and representative sample of the material.
